Ivan Georgiev - Rembranda 1938 - 1994

Ivan Georgiev - Rembranda was born on September 11, 1938, in Sofia. He graduated from the High School of Fine Arts and subsequently entered the National Academy of Arts, majoring in painting, under the instruction of Prof. Panayot Panayotov. In 1963, he received an award from the Central Council of Trade Unions for his poster "Never" (Nikoga), and in 1965, he was awarded for a painting study. He passed away on July 30, 1994.

Both the concrete and abstract paintings of Ivan Georgiev are phenomena without whose examination the broader narrative of Bulgarian visual art would be left incomplete. Ivan Georgiev's path was his own alchemical exploration of the majority of the plastic transformations that took place in European and global painting from the second half of the 19th and throughout the 20th century.
