
Kiril Mateev 1920 - 2006
Kiril Mateev was born on March 5, 1920, in Tsaribrod (present-day Dimitrovgrad). In 1945, he graduated in Monumental Mural Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia under Prof. Dechko Uzunov. He worked in the fields of poster design, illustration, and book design. The artist's favorite theme was high-mountain landscapes, which he painted throughout the Rila, Pirin, Rhodope, and Stara Planina mountain ranges.
From 1946, he participated in General Art Exhibitions (OHI), as well as regional, group, and collective exhibitions. Starting in 1945, he organized solo exhibitions almost annually in Sofia, Vratsa, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Varna, Burgas, Silistra, Dimitrovgrad, Samokov, Chirpan, Gabrovo, Gorna Oryahovitsa, and other towns. His works are held in the National Art Gallery, the Sofia City Art Gallery, regional art galleries across the country, and private collections.
Kiril Mateev passed away in 2006.
