Konstantin Stoilov was a Bulgarian artist born in 1850 in Linz, Austria. He passed away in 1924 in Vienna. In the 1880s, he studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, where he quickly gained recognition for his masterful compositions depicting horses. The artist preferred working in oils, and many of his paintings were large-scale works. Most frequently, he painted galloping horses amidst the snowy landscapes of the Russian North, Cossacks, hunters, and wolf chases. Less common subjects include scenes of fishermen and fish markets along the seashore.

Today, the artist's works can be found in various European museums, highly important public institutions, galleries, and private collections around the world. Paintings by Konstantin Stoilov are frequently offered at auctions, with his hunting scenes being particularly valued. The highest price achieved for one of his paintings is $28,680. It was characteristic of the artist to use various pseudonyms, signing his paintings as "A. Baumgartner-Stoiloff", "Stoiloff", "Constantin Stoiloff", or "C. Stoiloff".
